Title

Saint Anna, Kalavarda

Description

The countryside chapel of Saint Anna in Kalavarda is located outside the village, on the road to the village of Salakos in the Myrtonas valley. It was built in 1973 in the type of a single-naved cruciform church, and it is celebrated on July 25, the Dormition of the Saint. It is found on a green hill about 31 kilometres from the city of Rhodes. On the eve of the celebration, a festive vespers is held and then, in the appropriately designed surrounding area of the church, festive events take place, with the participation of cultural associations from the surrounding villages and a large number of pilgrims. Furthermore, in the churchyard of Saint Anna, a traditional feast is held that attracts locals and visitors from every corner of the island on Easter Monday and on May Day. To the southwest and not so far away we find the archaeological site of Ancient Kameiros. In the opposite direction, to the northeast, we find the traditional village of Fanes and the church of Saint Nikitas.
