Title
Prophet Elias, Koskinou
Description
The church of Prophet Elias is located at the top of the wooded hill of the same name in the area of Koskinou in the southeast of the island. It is found about 12 kilometres from the city of Rhodes. It is a single-nave, barrel-vaulted church with built-in coats of arms of the hospitaller period, placed upside down, obviously coming from another earlier building. The church celebrates on July 20. On the eve of the celebration, a festive vespers is held and on the day of the feast a Divine Liturgy is celebrated with the participation of locals and visitors of the island. It is a unique place with a magnificent view towards the area of Kallithea. As a result, the churchyard is particularly popular for the celebration of sacred mysteries of weddings and baptisms. Not far from the church we find the monastery complex of Prophet Amos. A little further south, after approximately 3.5 kilometres, we find the Kallithea Springs, which are an excellent example of Italian architecture, with a picturesque bay of rare natural beauty.
