Title
Saint Nektarios, Kryoneri
Description
The Monastery of Saint Nektarios is located on the provincial road that leads from the area of Kolymbia to Archipoli, in the location of Kryoneri and is surrounded by a pine forest. It is found about 34 kilometres from the city of Rhodes. The church of Saint Nektarios is the katholikon of the monastery. It was built in 1970 in the architectural type of the domed free cross and it has been decorated with more recent frescoes. It is celebrated on November 9, when a magnificent Divine Liturgy with the participation of the Metropolitan is held and the holy relics of the Saint are placed on display for veneration. To the right of the main entrance of the monastery we find an exceptionally beautiful fountain with plenty of drinking water that comes from the natural springs of the Mesovouno mountain, at the foot of which the Monastery is built. At a short distance from the Monastery towards the east we reach an excellent location of natural beauty called Seven Springs. To the west we find the traditional village of Archipoli as well as the village of Eleousa (Virgin Mary the merciful) with buildings dating from the Italian occupation and a unique round water fountain reservoir that houses the endemic fish species, Gizáni or Ghigi.
