Title
Saints Peter and Paul in Lindos
Description
The Holy Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul is located in the area of the traditional village of Lindos; more specifically in the harbour of Apostle Paul. It is located 48 kilometres from the city of Rhodes. The church celebrates on June 29, where a Divine Liturgy is celebrated with great ceremony, attracting a large number of locals and visitors to the area. The Apostle Paul at the end of his 3rd apostolic tour (52 AD), heading towards Jerusalem, passed by the beach of Lindos and since then the area bears his name. In 1956, a vespers was held at this historic spot on a flagship by the Metropolitan of Rhodes Spyridon Synodinos and the picturesque church of the Apostles Peter and Paul was founded. Next to the church there is a small sandy beach and on the opposite side to the church, on the hill, lies the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Lindos. A short distance from the church we find the picturesque village of Lindos with its outstanding captains' houses, the holy church of the Dormition (15th century) together with its Ecclesiastical Museum and, in the wider area, the Tomb of Kleovoulos (6th century B.C.), one of the seven sages of antiquity.
