Zoodochos Pigi, Massari
Description
The new martyr Saint Nikitas the Nisyrian came from Nisyros, but at a young age he came with his family to Rhodes and then went to Chios where he became a martyr. He is celebrated on June 21st in the historic Metropolitan Cathedral of Rhodes (1750) which is dedicated to the Entry of the Virgin to the Temple and is located at a distance of 600 metres to the southeast of the Medieval city gate of Saint John (Red Gate). A short distance from the church we find some of the neoclassical buildings of the city of Rhodes, the Central Municipal School and the Kazoulio Girls' School of Rhodes.
