Agios Georgios Kritinia
Description
To the west of the island and at a distance of approximately 50 kilometres from the center of the city of Rhodes lies the parish church of Saint Georgios (1864) of Kritinia. He is the patron Saint of the village and is celebrated every year (on 23/4) with a great ceremony. A characteristic fact of the celebration is that during the procession of the icon of Saint George, it is carried on a white horse, thus honoring the mounted Saint George and contributing to the imposing atmosphere of the celebration. After the procession and the Divine Liturgy, people entertain themselves in the churchyard. Very close to the church we find the Folklore Museum of the area, while a few kilometers to the northwest we find the Medieval Castle of Kritinia and the archaeological site of Ancient Kamiros.
