Title
The pier at Karambournaki
Description
This pier is not the refugees', it was built by the Allies for the airfield they had at Karambournaki. The pier where the refugees were disembarked was at the present-day Plaz. At Karambournaki, it was a small part of the pier with cement from the land around four to five meters and the rest was wooden. After about 1950, this pier was torn down and made concrete. This was the staircase that our Allies made for their military needs in World War I. This is where the motorboats used to dock in the summers for the bathing of the people of Thessaloniki and the fishing boats of the people of Karambournaki.
