Title
The beach of Aretsou in 1934
Description
Kalamaria – Aretsou. The photograph, taken in 1934, shows the Trocadero summer center, which later became known as Kaminkia, situated atop the rocky outcrop. During the 1930s, wooden staircases were built into the sea to allow small boats to dock, with departures originating from the quay near the White Tower. These centers remained operational until the early 1970s, leaving behind the echoes of their names that are still remembered today. The man on the far right, wearing a hat, is Antonis Chalkias, a refugee from Vourla in Asia Minor, accompanied by his family.
