Aretsou, Kalamaria. The Chomatas Shipyard and the Quarantine Station
Περιγραφή
In the background, the Quarantine Station (Disinfection Station) is visible, dating before 1920, an essential facility for public health, aimed at controlling contagious diseases among ships and their passengers. Also featured is the pier where Greek refugees from Asia Minor and Pontus in 1922 disembarked after fleeing the Greco-Turkish War. The Chomatas Shipyard and the beach areas of Katirli - Kouri, and Aretsou are seen as part of the thriving maritime scene of the time. A dirt road, which began at the current Cement Steps (Tsimentenia Skalopatia), led down the slope next to the rock, taking people directly to the beach
